Peter Decaprio- Discussing key economic indicators that can be used to recognize when a recession is occurring

At any given time there are millions of people looking for work. And when the economy is doing poorly, more people are out searching for jobs says Peter Decaprio. So what happens if you take all unemployed people and look at them proportionally to the total population? This would be called the Unemployment Rate. Let’s see what this looks like in America by decade since 1940: As you can see from the chart, the 1960s were peak years of low unemployment rates in America while the 1970s saw a steady rise in unemployment up until around 1980 where it peaked. Thanks to harsh economic conditions during this period, known as stagflation – inflation went up even while president Reagan implemented supply-side economics (less regulation) which led to a drop in unemployment – the lowest rates were seen around 1989 with 5.3%. During most of Clinton’s presidency (1993-2000), unemployment was low but started to rise towards the end; however, it still remained below 6%. When Bush Jr became president (2000-2008) it saw a steady climb from… Read More »Peter Decaprio- Discussing key economic indicators that can be used to recognize when a recession is occurring

Peter Decaprio: Creating strategies for companies to use when the economy is in a recession

Creating strategies for companies to use when the economy is in a recession is no easy feat, but it should be simple to provide our veterans with what they need when they come back home explains Peter Decaprio. It’s not clear whether or not companies even realize the magnitude of their involvement in this situation, but first things first. Here are five ways that employers can help out our returning soldiers. 1. Hire Them There’s a good chance that many of these men and women have left their jobs to serve the country. They may need time to find a job after they return home, but it is definitely happening at a much faster rate considering that there are over 2 million people unemployed right now. No one should be considered “unemployable” because of military service, if anything employers should consider this as an asset, not a liability. Job skills can change from training received during time in the service – especially for those who have been deployed – and considering how quickly unemployment numbers… Read More »Peter Decaprio: Creating strategies for companies to use when the economy is in a recession

Peter Decaprio- Comparing Keynesian and classical theories on business cycles

In the early 1980s, as I was learning macroeconomics from models based on either John Maynard Keynes’s General Theory or those based on Milton Friedman and David Meiselman’s Micro foundations Project, I found that I had a hard time explaining to myself why anyone would ever have any problem with recessions says Peter Decaprio. Why would a worker accept a wage cut, the question went, when she could simply decline to work at the lower wage? And why would an employer pay someone more if that person declined to work for him? If any of this was problematic, it seemed that only some kind of odd coordination problem could explain it. These questions really bothered me. My answer back then was that people must not actually know what they’re doing when they either take or offer wages in disequilibrium. As long as these workers and employers were just responding to incentives without knowing where the economy was headed (and because workers are typically paid their marginal product), then there could be big problems with supply-side… Read More »Peter Decaprio- Comparing Keynesian and classical theories on business cycles

Peter Decaprio- 10 Ways to turn your employees into Leaders

We all know what kind of power leaders can have on an organization, and how they can make a business highly successful says Peter Decaprio. That is why we often forget that leaders do not just appear, but need to be nurtured and developed – especially during the early years of their careers; this also makes them more effective later in their careers. So, here are ten ways managers and startups can nurture future leadership: Companies like Google believe that everyone has the ability to lead at some point or other within the company’s hierarchy. And as companies develop this belief further, they realize that sometimes different people should actually be leading at different times too! This means as a manager you may need to let go of your control as a leader from time to time so that others can learn the ropes. One of the best ways for your employees to be motivated is by giving them freedom, freedom in their work, and the freedom to make decisions. Letting the employees make crucial… Read More »Peter Decaprio- 10 Ways to turn your employees into Leaders

Peter Decaprio- 10 Ways to be a better Leader right now

Leadership skills and traits, those that produce good leaders, are not just something you’re born with explains Peter Decaprio. Rather, these skills can be developed over time if you know how to go about it the right way. Here are 10 ways to become a better leader at work: 1) LISTEN One of the most important skills as a leader is being able to understand what your employees need or want from them. Whether you have employees who report directly to your desk or subordinates who perform tasks across the office – make sure you listen to what they say and respond accordingly. A simple ‘thank you goes a long way too! 2) DON’T GIVE TOO MANY DIRTY JOBS Everyone starts his/her career with general cleaning duties – sweeping, wiping and mopping. But as time goes by and your employees grow within the company, they don’t want to be stuck with these jobs anymore. As a leader, you need to help them grow and evolve; ensure that their growth is linked to the growth of… Read More »Peter Decaprio- 10 Ways to be a better Leader right now

Peter Decaprio: 8 Ways to Be a Better Leader in 2022

In the coming years, new technologies, disruptive innovation, and a quickly-evolving business landscape will change our workforce more than anything we’ve ever seen. It’s a time of great uncertainty that requires leaders to be bolder and more agile than ever before says Peter Decaprio. And companies that hope to keep pace with accelerating change – or even get ahead of it – have some critical thinking to do on how their leadership teams need to evolve in order to thrive in 2022. Here are 8 Ways to Be a Better Leader in 2022: 1. Lead from Anywhere: In the last five years alone, remote work has been growing at an impressive clip, especially among millennials who want greater flexibility in when and where they work. But besides being able to collaborate across distances and time zones, the best talent wants work with meaning, projects that are meaningful and a company culture where the employees’ work truly makes an impact. A successful leader will focus on what can be done from anywhere to make an even… Read More »Peter Decaprio: 8 Ways to Be a Better Leader in 2022

Peter Decaprio- 8 things great leaders do to stay on top

8 things great leaders do to stay on top of the games by Peter Decaprio As you teach, coach and guide your team members to be great leaders of tomorrow, here are some things that you can do today to stay on top of your game. A leader who gets overwhelmed with his/her work will never be able to do more than what’s expected. So it’s very important that you avoid all these pitfalls if you want to become a better leader! Here are 8 things great leaders do to stay on top of the game: 1) Stay Attuned To What Your People Are Saying & Doing This is so crucial for successful leadership because perceptions matter. It doesn’t matter how high up in an organization one is; every senior executive has problems communicating their ideas across multiple stakeholders, right? So this means sooner or later, the CXOs also have to depend on the employees to help them get their points across. Employees are your biggest stakeholders- they contribute towards making or breaking an organization!… Read More »Peter Decaprio- 8 things great leaders do to stay on top

Peter Decaprio shares 7 Tips on how to become an effective leader

Tips on how to become an effective leader by Peter Decaprio. A good leader is one who is intrinsically motivated, self-disciplined and capable of motivating their team. Good leaders are not born; they’re made. Many people assume that leadership and management mean the same thing but this is a myth. People can manage others without necessarily leading them towards a shared vision or goal. To be able to lead effectively, you need empathy for other people’s emotions, you must ensure people follow your visions and goals while at the same time figuring out what makes them tick. Leaders should care about serving, empowering and developing their employees (or students), instead of seeing them only as unthinking and expendable resources. If you want to be a leader, here are seven tips on how to become an effective leader: Tip 1: You must be able to communicate effectively You can’t lead unless you know how to get your message across clearly and concisely. Good leadership communication should involve more than just knowing what to say; it also… Read More »Peter Decaprio shares 7 Tips on how to become an effective leader

Peter Decaprio: 7 Habits of Highly Effective Leaders

With so many choices available as to who might be leading us, it is nice to have a list of active habits those leaders should utilize says Peter Decaprio. Here are seven habits from those highly effective leaders: In the business world, people pace themselves by focusing on major events and milestones, such as an initial public offering (IPO) or a product launch. In other words, they focus on marching toward a goal instead of things that need to get done along the way. The problem with this approach is that you can completely miss some very important problems or opportunities – your end goal may suffer as a result. If you do not take time each day for routine activities, you will never make any real progress toward your vision because life gets in the way. For example, you will never advance in your career if you neglect things like writing thank-you notes to colleagues and mentors. Leaders who focus only on the end goal and not the necessary steps toward it often fail… Read More »Peter Decaprio: 7 Habits of Highly Effective Leaders
